Soap Box Derby part 2

Here is one of the more high tech cars racing down the street, they got up to a pretty good speed going along there.

The end of the course was arranged with hay bales to catch any errant racers. I saw a few of them crash in here as apparently breaking technology in these cars was not one of the key features.

Here is a crash in action. As far as I saw, there were no injuries through the day and the event seemed to be a big success. I had fun anyway.

Soap Box Derby

Recently our street was closed for a soap box derby racing day. I had no idea that such things still went on, but as the day approached, it was clear that they still have quite a good following. Our neighbourhood is on quite a long hill, so it is an ideal location for this sort of thing.

Liam and Emil of course had to check out the proceedings and get up as close as possible to the cars. I am sure they would have loved to drive one, but that was not about to happen.

Here are some of the cars with their crews. There were all sorts of constructions, from the fancier end of things where they looked quite high tech, to the lower end where the cars did look like they were held together with duct tape.
The start of each race was gravity driven. no pushing or other help given to the cars as they got rolling.
Full commentary provided by these two fellows on the back of a hay wagon.
